How is length measured?

Length is the full length of the workpiece – handle and all. We prep, foil wrap and treat the whole thing.

Are folder parts – such as backsprings included or separate items?

Each piece is a separate item and billed as such. If we put multiple pieces in an envelope, they tend to overlap. This leads to bent pieces as well as poor contact during quench which compromises proper hardening. On a positive note, the extra pieces do count toward your quantity discount.

Will you do hamones or other differential heat treat?

We’d love to dabble in this, but we quench in an agitated 10 gallon tank of professional heat treat oil – and don’t want it (or the filter system) contaminated with ‘clay’. I’ve never done this, even for myself.

Do you include Cryogenic treatment?

All ‘air quench’ steels get cryo. It is a great benefit to getting the steel to all it can be. Oil quench steels generally don’t benefit from cryo and may be at risk of micro-fractures.

How long does your service take? Can I get get rush service?

We generally ask for two weeks to turn your order around. That’s not a guarantee but we’re pretty good at beating it. Express service would generally mean putting you ahead of someone already in the Que. That just isn’t fair. Much like the doctor’s office, we might be able to squeeze you in if it’s urgent – but don’t count on it.

How hard can you get my blade?

Heck, I can get 440C over RHC 62 – but I won’t. If you want to play on the outside edge of what is possible, we’d prefer you try elsewhere. We don’t want to be associated with failed blades. Perhaps choose a steel more appropriate to your needs?
